THE NATURE GARDEN
In second year we were asked to design the backyard of White Hill House, as its residents wanted to make it more functional, comfortable and attractive.
The first thing we noticed was the uneven pavement and the need for some seatings, so we decided to designed a decking for the most used side of the space with a built-in seating area so that adults can relax, enjoy their free time and watch their children playing in the backyard.
Also, we designed a staircase to get to the top of the sheds and make the best use of the space.
In order to make the whole space more attractive, we filled it with plants: in front of the sheds we designed some lockers with patches of vertical garden clipped onto them; some movable planters were placed on top of the sheds (with built-in storage to keep tools and soil) to give to the residents the opportunity of growing a communal orchard. The handrail on top of the sheds would act as a self-watering shelving unit to hold and water plants.
